F11 Version 1.5 - Release Notes =============================== Program Description ------------------- F11 is an enhancement for the WORD and DATA applications inbuilt in PSION Series 3a. - change automatically letters from lower case to upper case. - insert automatically spaces. - doubles automatically hyphens. - insert todays date - insert non keyboard characters from character table - insert standard text phrases from custom defined phrase books. - easy typing of national characters (umlauts). - Find file function with preview Full documentation as online manual. Platforms --------- This program runs on PSION S3a and ACORN PocketBook II computers. It also runs on the S3a-Emulator with S3a or PC screen size. Due to the different keyboard layout some key combinations do not work. To access F11-Menu and F11-Help use ALT-TAB followed by F9 or F10. Applications ------------ Speed up typing and document creation. Merge data from various sources into documents. Requirements ------------ The amount of disc space needed is approx. 50k for the program and 26k for the manual. WORD ---- Install the module F11 to the system screen. This module uses the default folder \WRD\ and the default extension .WRD. It invokes the word processor with all word processing functions. Text files ---------- It is possible to use F11 not only as a word processor, but also as a text editor. To do so, install the module F11T to the system screen. This module uses the default folder \WRD\ and the default extension .TXT. It invokes the word processor in text editing mode. OPL --- It is also possible to use F11 as program editor for OPL. To do so, install the module F11O to the system screen. This module uses the default folder \OPL\ and the default extension .OPL. It invokes the word processor in program editing mode. A special phrase book OPLphrase.WRD is supplied for speedy editing of programs. DATA ---- To use F11 for the DATA application install the module F11D to the screen. This module uses the default folder \DAT\ and the default extension .DBF. It invokes the DATA application. RepPoc-Interface ---------------- From RepPoc V2.33 onwards, F11 can be optionally invoked by RepPoc to edit forms and reports. A special function has been supplied to edit forms: PSION-R from the F11-menu or PSION-TAB followed by "." or ":" shows all RepPoc text functions as defined in RPFUNC.DBF. On selection F11 inserts the text function into the form. Compatibility ------------- - F11 and Macro systems. We have tested F11 with KMAC091 and with Macro V2.0. As both systems capture keys when hotkeys are assigned clashes with F11 may occur resulting in a system freeze. We recommend to use only the following key combinations for macro hotkeys: Any character key pressed together with the CONTROL key. We did not experience problems when using one of these combinations. Before you start recording out of an F11 session, you must disable F11 with Shift-ESC. Otherwise the Macro-System would not record any key. After you have switched off recording, enable F11 with Shift-ESC again. Playback is possible at all times. - F11 and DataView - Another file cannot be opened as main file using the file finder when DataView is in update mode. Instead, invoke the file finder from the view mode using Shift-MENU and the Find-File menu function. - It is not possible to merge two data files - TAB-characters in phrases are converted to blanks when F11 is used with DataView When things go wrong -------------------- Problem: Not enough memory or not enough diskspace on internal disk. Solution: Switching off F11 (PSION-X in F11 menu) will release some memory. Work is continued under the native WORD processor. (see also next problem) Problem: F11 was disabled with PSION-X in F11 menu or automatically after an error situation. The SYSTEM button was pressed, and now you cannot find the suspended WORD editor session. Solution: You have created an orphan. Simply reopen the document under F11. Alternativly, use Shift-SYSTEM to step through the open applications until you reach your document. With this method editing is continued without the F11 functions. Problem: You open many documents in parallel. F11 responds with "No system memory" or "O/S error". Solution: Close another open document or another open application to free system resources. Problem: When you open more than 1 document in parallel the open-file-list under F11 seems to be upside down Solution: None. Problem: You try to record something from an F11 session using a macro system but nothing is recorded. Solution: Disable the F11 functions using Shift-ESC. After recording enable again with the same key. (see also above) Problem: You use a macro system but F11 seems not to work properly. Solution: Try to get a copy of the macro systems mentioned above. You should not experience problems with recording and replaying simple macros. If you use programmed macros, please check the macro code thoroughly. Note that specific F11 functions cannot be invoked through a macro. Use only the recommended hotkey combinations (see above). Problem: You pulled the SSD where F11 was installed. The system shows a screen asking you to insert the SSD but seems not to answer to the Enter-key or the ESC-key. Solution: Use CONTROL-Enter or CONTROL-ESC to answer the prompt. The following situation should never occur, however, if they occur: Problem: F11 does not terminate or shows "busy" continuously. Solution: Press the SYSTEM button. Then use the System function "Kill application". (You will not loose DATA. Restart F11 by reopening the same document.) Problem: The system freezes. Solution: Reset the machine. Press the reset button (the little hole left of the SYSTEM button) using a wire or similar. Then press the ON button. Do not remove the batteries as this would wipe out the whole internal disk! New in version V1.50 -------------------- - New hypertext feature. Include hypertext references into your documents and navigate between different chapters or different documents with one keystroke. Use PSION-HELP to create a hyperlink, PSION-ENTER to jump to a hyperlink, and PSION-Shift-ENTER to jump back. For details see the manual. This function is available for F11-WORD, F11-TEXT, F11-OPL, but not for F11-DATA. (In F11-OPL the hyperlinks are mapped to procedure calls. Just press PSION-ENTER on a procedure name to jump to that procedure.) You can also establish hotlinks to (but not from) DATA-records, Spreadsheets, GIF-, PCX-, PIC-images (PocView V1.16 required). - PSION-ESC (Undo) can now be applied with a delay. It will always undo the last substitution. Undo has also become a menu item. - New menu function "Make phrase". This function can only be invoked when text was selected. The selection will be converted into a phrase and will be appended at the end of the current phrase book. - F11 for DATA now supports DataView PRO. If Dataview.app is installed F11 will automatically use DataView instead of DATA. To use F11 with the original DATA application, rename Dataview.app into something else. Some F11 functions are restricted with Dataview (see compatibility) New in version V1.45 -------------------- - Find file function, Navigation in DATA files. Type a sequence of character keys to specify a search string. The window will only display records starting with the specified string. The search string is displayed in the top right corner of the preview window. To shorten the search string type DEL, to clear it, type CNTRL-DEL. New in version V1.41 -------------------- - Umlaut logic: New options: Umlaut off, replace in words, replace always. - Additional options for hyphen substitution and conversion to upper case. - F11 supports now multiple WORD-file lists with individual default templates. - We have added an OPL example file for using F11 with ReadCIS. (RCF11.OPL) - The character code is displayed as you move the cursor across the character table. New in version V1.4 ------------------- - New F11D frontend to support the DATA application. (3Setup will ask you) Now typing is easy in DATA, too! - PSION-ESC can now be used to undo the last F11-character conversion such as automatic spaces, automatic upper key, hyphen conversion, umlaut conversion. After insertion of a phrase PSION-ESC has the same effect as PSION-DEL. (removal of the phrase) Documentation ------------- Use F11.WRD as an online documentation under Word.
